Lonjsko polje Nature park

Lonjsko Polje Nature Park is one of the largest and best preserved natural wetlands in Europe. Due to the periodic flooding of the Sava rivers and tributaries, the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park is a unique treasure trove of biodiversity not only in Croatia but throughout Europe. This is the only area in Europe where a natural floodplain is used in a controlled flood defense system. Of particular interest are the original breeds that preserve the identity of the area and are characterized by adaptation to extreme outdoor survival conditions: Croatian Posavac, Croatian cold-blooded pig, Turopolje pig, Slavonian-Srijem Podolian cattle, Posavina goose and Posavina hound. Adaptation to the floods is evident in the construction style - "čardaci" as well as in the preservation of wooden Posavina architecture.
