This wine boutique winery is lauded as 'a unique expression of Franschhoek's Bo-Hoek region. The winemaking philosophy here is firmly rooted in the old-world as the owners have drawn their inspiration from some of the most revered wine regions across Europe. While their approach to winemaking is traditional, their outlook on planting and assemblage is an exploratory one, allowing them to find the best way of expressing the soils, the climate and the sheer beauty of Franschhoek. Nigel and Joy McNaught fell in love with Franschhoek and decided to buy their very own piece of land and begin their wine journey. In 1995 they purchased an old fruit farm which has since become known as Stony Brook. The focus from the beginning was on crafting premium-quality wines that reflect the area and the styles of wine that excited them in the very beginning. In 2011, the owners were joined by their son, Craig McNaught, who took over the reigns as winemaker. With a strong focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Chardonnay, the McNaught family re-planted the entire farm to vines and built a small cellar in which to produce the first wines under the Stony Brook label.
