Opéra de Nice
It is the Côte d'Azur's musical institution. It has been located for nearly 250 years in the Vila Nova (new town) district, at the tip of the old town of Nice between the sea and the mouth of the Paillon. Since the first theatre built by the Maccarani family in 1776, the Nice Opera has been at the heart of the social and political life of the city of Nice and one of the symbols of Nice's history as a "winter resort city of the Riviera" inscribed in 2021 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its main functions have always been the production of operas, ballets and concerts, the organisation of parties and balls and the hosting of political celebrations.
