You'll meet your "golden" tour guide, recognised by the tourism ministry as an elite cultural guide and typically difficult to reserve, before heading to the Zhengyici Peking Opera Theatre, the birthplace of Peking opera in 1688. There, a Peking opera actor will share an introduction to the art form while you savour a traditional local snack (the popcorn of its day). You'll hear more from your guide about how the unique operatic practice developed as you glide over to the former residence of Mei Lanfang, a leading 20th-century figure in the world of opera, then continue on to the Forbidden City complex and other historical sites in Beijing.
