Dallas: Drive-by Shopping

When they say that everything is bigger in Texas, they really mean everything. Within the urban sprawl of Dallas, shopping is serious business. The highlights? The galleria (don't you dare call it a mall) is so large it should come with its own road map. It can be daunting, even for a local. But navigating this denim-and-diamonds wonderland is simple when you're traveling with the Shopping Chauffeur.

Christie Sheffield, the Shopping Chauffeur.

Why is this city's shopping unique? "Dallas ladies march to their own drum, and stores' buyers go to market with them in mind."

Dallas native Christie Sheffield, the 26-year-old founder of Shopping Chauffeur, is using her insider's knowledge of local shopping destinations and boutique owners to help both tourists hoping to bring back some fashionable souvenirs and natives seeking some personal shopping advice. Sheffield assures that her clients find their way, both on the highways and sartorially.

The concept is simple: Sheffield offers VIP shopping, personalized wardrobe tips, and the opportunity to explore Dallas in a "safe and fun environment," she says. After calling to book a tour (either by yourself or through one of Shopping Chauffeur's hotel partners), you'll receive an initial style assessment so that Sheffield can pinpoint what destinations you and she should hit. Each tour is customized according to style, budget, and time (half- and full-day excursions are offered), but the standard tour includes transportation in a luxury vehicle, VIP treatment at area boutiques, and lunch at a "premier" restaurant, with stops along the way at local attractions, museums, and galleries. Every trip is customizable. Need a cappuccino? A manicure? A map? No prob. The company has worked with bachelorette parties and groups of as many as 250 people, as well as with individuals (both female and male).

Why is Dallas such a shopping hub?

"Dallas ladies march to the beat of their own drum, and so many of the stores' buyers go to market with them in mind, carrying a unique selection in the stores," says Sheffield.

Dallas has more shopping centers per capita than any other major U.S. city. Sheffield also points out that, in addition to the legendary Neiman Marcus, the city is home to designer concept stores, "up-and-coming gems," and fashionista favorites such as Forty Five Ten.

Sheffield also serves as a personal stylist for many of her clients. They're usually people who "want to stay on the cutting edge of fashion and either don't have time to shop or simply want their wardrobes to remain current and in style," she says.

As for Sheffield herself, she adheres to one simple style mantra: "Always stay true to yourself and your personal style."

So does that mean you're going to opt for cowboy boots or stilettos? No need to take foot comfort into consideration - your limo awaits.
